WITH GREAT POWER COMES GRAVE DANGER.

After decades of oppression, the elves and other races are fighting each other and attacking the humans in ever-growing numbers. The kings and armies fear invasion from across the river - but fear their neighbours more. Dissent and intrigue fester in this time of contempt.

As Ciri learns to control her magic, Geralt and Yennefer must protect the orphaned heir who is sought by all sides. For the child of prophecy has the power to change the world - if she lives to use it.

Time of Contempt is the second novel in Andrzej Sapkowski's epic series set in the Witcher world, following Blood of Elves.

Beautiful hardcover version...with some nitpicks

Beautiful hardcover version...with some nitpicks
Hardcover Release Physical review:Beautiful looking book, with amazing art in the covers, great color scheme and a very nice map drawn on the first and last page. Unfortunately the cover art is printed in a flimsy looking paper. The actual hardcover is neat but nowhere near cool as the outer sleeve. Im afraid the outersleeve will tear easily. I wish they had made it sturdier and figured out a way to stick it to the actual hardcover.I havent read the book yet so I cant review it, but I wanted to show some pics so that other buyers know what to expect. See photos.

I love the Witcher books! I haven’t watched the show or played the games. The books are a world of their own, transporting you somewhere else more adventurous and exciting! If you like books such as lord of the rings, Harry Potter, or similar I can’t imagine you wouldn’t enjoy these. Would recommend for older teens/adults.

This has been my favorite Witcher book of the series. This book largely differs from the adaptation in Netflix but both are very well written. I like the fact that the show is different from the source material because I was able to be surprised with the plot twists I didn't see coming. The book has a lot more depth into the backstory that also supports much of the show version. This book shows us the relationship between Ciri & Yennifer. As well as Yennifer & Geralt. In this book, Ciri & Geralt aren't together much. She is in training at the temple. Geralt is hurt, Vildeforge cannot be trusted (I knew it!) & allies are few but there are allies. Ciri goes through some very tough stuff and begins to find her grit.
This book is jammed packed with action, scandal, war, sex and plot twists. I do recommend having the next book on hand, Baptism Of Fire.

I love these books the best way I can describe the Witcher World in one sentence is to say that they are a cross between Game of Thrones and Harry Potter. They have all the political conflict between Kings and regions like Game of Thrones and all of the magic and sorcery of Harry Potter. As you get further into the novels they really leave you on some incredible cliffhangers and the story of Ciri, Yennefer and Geralt is Simply Amazing. The Deep connections between the three of them are what makes these books what they are and it truly makes one see that a child does not have to be your own for you to love them care for them and protect them like you would your own child. To the best of my knowledge these books were written long before Harry Potter and it may be that JK Rowling actually took some of her ideas from the books about The Witcher. I don't know that for a fact but I do see some correlations there, that might lead one to believe that she at least may have gotten some of her ideas and Concepts from The Witcher novels. Yes some of the same fantasy elements are there that you see in a lot of fantasy books werewolves, vampires, Sorcerers, witches. However being that the author is Polish and has a lot of deep polish folklore to drawn on, these books are very different from anything you would find from a British or American Author. I highly recommend them. Please don't let yourself be fooled thinking that these books were written after the video games they were written long before that and that's what makes The Witcher 3 video game in particular one of the best videogames of all time. The story that was taken from these novels. Do yourself a favor and read the first two Witcher short story collections and the five novels you won't regret it.

Of course I’ve watched the series, and I’m halfway overall through the books. So I’m pretty committed. Certainly not as complex as say LOTR or GOTh, but an interesting universe with politics mixed into the sword play and magic. Great characters as well.

I reread this book as the stories were great but there was a lot happening. Each of the main characters G, Y, and C from the earlier books get separated and you must follow new characters and settings rapidly. The world building is detailed and complex. My minus one star was based on a distraction to me. In the midst of the layers of culture, politics, and new characters, Geralt and Ciri almost become one dimensional in their single minded focus on "I must save her" vs "I must be alone". Both characters took an unnecessary step towards being unlikable. It just didn't work for me.

I haven’t stayed up all night reading in a very long time…but these books have me doing just that. I’d write more about how absolutely wonderful the world of Geralt, Dandelion, Ciri, and Yennifer are…but I need to go grab the next book to find out what happens next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong sequel

I really enjoyed reading the Witcher series, and Saga Book 2 was a strong sequel to Book 1. The world get better fleshed out. I enjoyed continuing to see where Geralt and Ciri. It's a long cycle (5 books for the main series), so it has a slow start, but it's a page turner.
